Madras University is the mother of almost all the old Universities of south India. Established in 1857, it is one of the three oldest universities in India. The University area of jurisdiction has been confined to three districts of Tamil Nadu in recent years.
The University has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with the five star rating first, and later with an A rating. Courses approved by UGC, PSC & DEB. MHRD NIRF Rankings 2019: 20, UGC-UPE.
Admissions are made throughout the year for all programmes in two streams — Academic Year Admissions and Calendar Year Admissions.
